You might have already read, in other posts of mine, that Anger Destroys. It is a topic consistently on this psychiatrist’s mind. Anger is meant to scare, and eventually hurt others.
In nature, animals recruit anger, infrequently, and for very brief periods. Nature understand’s anger’s purpose. Aggression utilized only in situations of dire survival importance.
Donald trump is nothing if not aggressive. This makes him cruel and capable of only destruction and chaos. Creating anything of substance requires intelligent planning. It also requires social skills to unify others working toward a common goal. It requires emotional maturity and calmness in order to patiently pursue building something strong and lasting. It requires discipline to remain focused and productive. Building and growth take hard work over a long period, where destruction occurs abruptly.
It’s clear that the only path our president is capable of is destruction.
Our current president abysmally lacks any of these healthy traits. His limited emotional intelligence or calmness results in an inability to intelligently create a plan. His anger and cruelty causes people to be scared and want to run for the hills, leaving him with no unification or cohesive support. His impatience creates chaos, jumping from one executive order to another with the sole intent of kicking something over.
This also is the converse of the discipline, or stick-to-it-ness, that we learn in early grade school that is necessary in order to accomplish a goal. It’s essentially very lazy. Much like an angry toddler throwing a temper tantrum, this makes Donald Trump capable of painful, but only brief harm and superficial change.
Throughout our young history we have always been a country faced with challenges. We have been forced to overcome adversity. In only the last hundred years, the United States has survived The Great Depression, World War II, Wars in Korea, Vietnam and Iraq; Watergate and the recent Pandemic.
I find it calming and reassuring to consider that our country is smart enough, emotionally healthy enough, and patient enough to withstand this infantile tyrant and his administration’s brief term in office.
Essentially, this too shall pass.
